Welcome to Casa Lucis: the Diocese of Texas

Casa Lucis is House of Light in Latin.

We are here to forward the work of Our Master in the world. We feed the Christ's flock. We are called to offer an open, inclusive and non-dogmatic catholicism which at the same time acknowledges that we are all on a journey towards God whichever path we take.

About the Light

In the diocese of Texas, we call ourselves the "lightouse" or "house of light" The drawing of the hermit was done by Pamela Colman Smith.

Some people say that the hermit's light is the symbol of wisdom... a spark in the dark. Others insist that it is a representation of inspiration, where something wonderful comes out of nothing.

With respect to others, we suggest that the hermit's light is so much more. It is one of the fundamental blocks of our universe. The closest star to the sun is Proxima Centauri. When you ask how far away it is, a scientist will tell you it is 4.2 light years away.

We know of distant stars because they send light our way. It is the glue that keeps us together.

Light is one of the things that remind us we are at one with all. This is atonement or at-ONE-ment.

There are two ways of being a Christian:

  • Orthodoxy, which means “correct thinking” or “correct teaching.”
  • Orthopraxy, which means “correct practice” or “correct relationships.”
There is nothing "wrong" with correct thinking or teaching. But we stress orthopraxy.

Our Master Jesus laid down few laws and even fewer rules. He taught us to love God, love ourselves, and love our neighbor as our6selves. One of his rules is this: love your enemies. We aren't supposed to try to convert or change that enemy: just love.

...{for each person} there is one path [to God] which is shortest; but which that is depends upon the position from which he starts. To expect everyone to come round to our starting-point and use our path would be to fall under the delusion, born of conceit and ignorance, which blinds the eyes of the bigoted religionist.
Abp C. W. Leadbeater (1854-1934)

Your light — however dim it might be — will reach our closest star in 4.2 years. It will reach your earthly neighbors and your earhly enemies almost instantaneously.

The more obvious forms of orthopraxy are liturgies such as the Mass, where we join with the choirs of angels in saying Alleluia. We anoint the sick and carry our Master's message to those in need.

I can't tell you what you are supposed to do, but I can tell you that you are here to do something important. God needs you as a participant in life, not merely as an observer. You aren't here by accident, no matter what your circumstances suggest.

Let your light shine.
